Google AI Plus Free for African Students: Eligibility, Deadline and How to Claim
On this page
Google has announced a one-year premium AI subscription offer for eligible tertiary students in participating African countries. The offer provides 12 months of Google AI Plus at no subscription charge during the promotional period. It is a digital learning offer, not a cash scholarship or university tuition grant.
What students receive
The subscription provides access to premium Google AI features under the AI Plus plan, subject to Google’s current product limits and local availability. Students can use eligible AI tools to support study, research preparation, writing and organisation. Features and usage limits can change, so review the offer page before enrolling.
Who can apply?
Google says the student promotion is available across 27 African countries, subject to eligibility checks. Applicants must be eligible tertiary students in a supported country and successfully complete student-status verification. Country availability and verification requirements matter: studying in Africa does not automatically qualify everyone.
Application deadline
31 December 2026 is the advertised redemption deadline for the student promotion. This is the deadline to claim the offer, not a university admission or scholarship application deadline. Google may impose additional country-specific conditions.
How to claim the offer
- Visit Google’s official student offer page using your Google account.
- Check whether the promotion is available in your country and whether you meet the age and student requirements.
- Follow the student verification process, which may use SheerID or other requested evidence of current enrolment.
- Review the subscription terms, billing method and the date the free period ends.
- Complete activation only if you understand the automatic-renewal terms.
Will you be charged?
Google may require a valid payment method even when the first 12 months are free. Unless cancelled before the promotional period ends, the subscription can renew at the then-applicable paid price. Set a reminder before the renewal date if you do not intend to continue. Check the final checkout screen for the exact charge and date.
Important correction: AI Plus is not AI Pro
Some third-party coverage describes this as a free ‘Gemini Pro’ offer for African students. Google’s regional announcement specifies Google AI Plus for eligible African students. Its separate US student promotion concerns AI Pro. Do not assume the plans have identical benefits or limits.
Practical guidance
Use the official Google offer rather than a reseller, and never pay someone to ‘unlock’ a free student subscription. Keep a record of the activation date and review privacy and academic-integrity rules before uploading classwork or sensitive documents to any AI service.
