English-taught bachelor's in Germany guide 2027 on Zejimo.com
On this page

Germany has a growing number of bachelor’s degrees taught fully in English. This guide compares seven of them at state and private universities, with the fees, deadlines and English levels each one asks for. It is written for applicants from Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and India. The most important point for you is the entry rule: in most cases a WAEC, KCSE or Class 12 certificate alone does not give you direct entry to a German state university.

Status: No single deadline. Each university sets its own dates for the winter semester that starts in autumn 2027. Most state universities on this list close between 30 June and 15 July each year. Frankfurt School closes on 30 June 2027 and Constructor University on 31 July 2027 (checked October 29, 2026).

Can you get in with WAEC, KCSE or Class 12?

  • Ghana: DAAD Ghana states that a WASSCE does not allow direct entry. You need one year of university study in Ghana or a one-year Studienkolleg in Germany.
  • Nigeria and Ghana: uni-assist says a WASSC qualifies you for a Studienkolleg. Studienkolleg courses and the final exam are usually only in German, even if your degree will be in English.
  • India: DAAD India states that Class 12 alone does not give direct admission. A JEE Advanced result, or one year of a bachelor’s in India, can give subject-specific admission.
  • Kenya: the uni-assist Kenya page lists only document rules, so check your KCSE in the DAAD admission database.

For an English-taught degree, the practical route is often one year of related university study at home first. Private Constructor University also runs an English-taught International Foundation Year for students without direct entry.

  • FAU’s new fee does not apply to students who enrolled before summer 2027.
  • Frankfurt School does not ask for an English certificate. It tests English at its online Assessment Centre. Dates for 2027 entry are 18 November 2026, 10 December 2026 and 18 January 2027.
  • Constructor offers a grade-based scholarship of up to €10,000.

How to apply

  1. Check your certificate in the DAAD admission database.
  2. Pick a programme and read its official page for the exact 2027 dates.
  3. Book an English test that meets the level in the table.
  4. Apply through uni-assist or the university portal, as each page states.
  5. After admission, start your German student visa application.

Tips before you apply

  • Do not rely on a Studienkolleg if you speak no German. Most are taught in German.
  • Apply to uni-assist early, as document checks take time.
  • Nigerian and Ghanaian applicants should keep the WAEC scratch card details ready, as uni-assist asks for them.
  • Compare total costs. Fees range from no tuition at Rhine-Waal, HTW Berlin and Leuphana to over €23,000 a year at Constructor.

Details are taken from the official university, DAAD and uni-assist websites, checked on October 29, 2026. Confirm the current rules there before you apply.
