How Clarendon actually works
Clarendon is different from a scholarship that requires an essay or a separate application portal. Oxford considers eligible applicants automatically when they submit a new graduate-course application by that course’s relevant December or January funding deadline. Applying after the correct funding deadline may make you ineligible, even if the university still accepts the course application.
Clarendon funding is awarded on academic merit and future potential. It covers course fees in full and provides a living-cost grant for the award’s applicable period. Oxford states that full-time and part-time master’s and DPhil courses can be considered. Applicants should check the exact funding arrangements and course duration before accepting an offer.
Documents that influence the scholarship decision
- Academic transcript: your results and relevant degree preparation.
- Statement of purpose: a precise explanation of your academic interests, course fit and preparation.
- Research proposal: where a particular course requires one.
- Academic references: informed assessments of your academic ability and potential.
- Course deadline: the December or January funding date shown on the exact graduate-course listing.
Clarendon Scholarship FAQs
Can international students from Nigeria or India qualify?
Yes. Oxford says Clarendon has no nationality or ordinary residence restrictions. The selection still depends on the graduate course and academic merit.
Is there a separate Clarendon form?
No. Apply for the degree before its funding deadline; Oxford automatically considers eligible applicants.
Does Clarendon have one worldwide deadline?
No. Each course determines whether the relevant December or January admissions funding deadline applies.
Does Clarendon pay every personal expense?
It covers university course fees and a living-cost grant. Applicants should still plan for deposits, travel or other expenses not expressly included in their award terms.
