The Virtual Africa Algorithms Workshop is a free online session from Google for engineering and computer science students who want to apply to Google. Google’s event page says you can meet current Google employees and learn how the Google interview process works. It suits you if you are a student or recent graduate in Africa getting ready for software engineering interviews.
Status: Registration page is live. Google’s registration page for the 2026 workshop is online. Other listings report the session as Saturday 31 October 2026, from 12:00 to 14:00 GMT, but Google’s page does not show that date in its text. Register early and confirm the date and time on the official page (checked October 19, 2026).
What the workshop is about
Google has run Algorithms Workshops for university students in several regions over the years. Universities that shared past editions described them as sessions led by Google engineers on data structures, algorithms and coding interview practice. The 2026 Africa edition is virtual, so you can join from your own country.
From Google’s event page, you can expect to:
- Meet current Google employees.
- Learn how Google’s interview process works.
- Get a clearer idea of how to prepare if you plan to apply to Google after school.
This is a training event, not a scholarship or a job offer. Taking part does not guarantee an internship or a role at Google.
Who can apply
Google’s page is written for engineering and computer science students who would like to apply to Google. It does not list a year of study, an age limit or a list of countries. Past Algorithms Workshops in other regions were aimed at students who could still take up a Google internship, so check the eligibility questions on the registration form.
You are likely a good fit if you:
- Study computer science, software engineering or a related engineering course, or graduated recently.
- Can write code in at least one programming language.
- Plan to apply for a Google internship or graduate role.

- Look out for an email from Google with the next steps and the joining link.

Tips before you apply
- Revise the basics: arrays, strings, hash maps, linked lists, trees, graphs, sorting and recursion.
- Pick one programming language and practise solving problems in it every day.
- Practise explaining your thinking out loud. Interviewers want to hear how you reason, not just the final answer.
- Test your internet connection and device before the day. Have a backup data plan if power or network is unreliable.
- Read Google’s student careers page to see which internships and early career roles you could apply for next.
- Only register through Google’s own site. Google does not need you to pay anyone to join this workshop.
