WBG Pioneers is the World Bank Group’s paid internship programme for final-year undergraduates and current master’s or PhD students. Nationals of any World Bank Group member country — including Nigeria and India — are eligible to apply, provided they meet the academic and experience criteria.
Deadline and pay
The World Bank Group runs two annual application cycles: a Spring/Summer cycle in January–February and a Winter/Fall cycle in July–August. The most recent Winter/Fall window has already closed, so the next opportunity is the Spring/Summer cycle, expected to open around January 2027. Unlike many international internships, WBG Pioneers is paid — interns receive a competitive hourly salary for the duration of the programme.
Who is eligible?
- Final-year undergraduate, or currently enrolled master’s or PhD student
- 0–6 years of professional work experience
- Fluent in English
- A citizen of a World Bank Group member country
- A demonstrated commitment to the World Bank Group’s mission and values
How to apply
- Watch the WBG Pioneers careers page for the Spring/Summer cycle to open in January 2027, since specific internship postings (by location and track) are listed individually rather than through one blanket application.
- Prepare a CV/resume (maximum two pages) and a one-page cover letter tailored to the specific posting you’re targeting.
- Gather your official transcripts and, if applicable, an enrollment letter from your university — required for no-fee internship placements.
- Apply to no more than three postings total; the World Bank Group states that additional applications beyond three will not be considered.
