On this page

KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe 2027 takes place in Barcelona, Spain, from 15 to 18 March 2027. It is the main European conference for Kubernetes and cloud native software, run by the Linux Foundation and the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF). Two kinds of help are on offer. A registration scholarship gives you a free conference pass. Travel funding pays for flights and a hotel. Both are for community members who cannot afford to attend, with priority for people from underrepresented groups.

Status: Open. Travel funding closes 18 January 2027 and registration scholarships close 5 February 2027, both at 23:59 CET. The official page sets no country limit, so readers in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and India can apply. You will most likely need a Schengen visa to enter Spain, and visa fees are not covered (checked October 29, 2026).

The official page does not give a cash cap for travel funding. It does say that lower-cost requests are more likely to be approved.

Who can apply

  • Registration scholarship: active community members or CNCF project maintainers who are not sponsored by a company. This includes people recently laid off or hit by a budget freeze. It is also open to people from groups underrepresented in tech, such as women, LGBTQ+ people, people of colour and people with disabilities.
  • Travel funding: active open source community members who could not attend otherwise. Priority goes to underrepresented groups and people from lower-income backgrounds.
  • Do not apply for travel funding if your employer can pay for your trip.
  • The page does not mention students as a separate group, and it sets no nationality rule.

How to apply

  1. For a free pass, fill in the registration scholarship form by 5 February 2027.
  2. For travel funding, create a Linux Foundation account and sign in to the Individual Dashboard.
  3. Open the travel funding application, choose KubeCon Europe 2027 and accept the terms.
  4. Complete the extra “About Me” fields for CNCF events, enter your expected costs and submit by 18 January 2027.
  5. If approved, keep your receipts. You must show a government photo ID at check-in, then claim your costs after the event.

Visa planning

Barcelona is in the Schengen area. The Linux Foundation offers a visa invitation letter to registered attendees. It asks for requests about 90 days before the event, which is mid-December 2026. Most letters are processed within 3 business days. A letter does not guarantee a visa.

The timing is tight. Travel funding decisions come on 1 February 2027, only six weeks before the event. Check visa wait times at the Spanish consulate in your country now.

Tips before you apply

  • Show your community work: code, docs, meetups, talks or mentoring.
  • Explain clearly why you cannot attend without help.
  • Ask for a realistic, low-cost flight and hotel. Cheaper requests stand a better chance.
  • The fund rarely supports the same person two years in a row, or several events in one year.
  • Decisions are final. Reapplying for the same event does not help.
  • Read the travel funding FAQ or email tr********@*************on.org with questions.

See the official scholarships and travel funding page for the full rules.

Details are taken from the official Linux Foundation Events website, checked on October 29, 2026. Confirm the current rules there before you apply.
