On this page
The Chinese Government Scholarship lets you study for a master’s or PhD at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) in Wuhan, China, with your main costs paid. The Chinese government funds it through the China Scholarship Council (CSC). HUST runs its own route for international graduate students, called the Chinese University Program, or Type B. It is a full scholarship: tuition, a room, a monthly stipend and medical insurance.
Status: Opening soon. HUST has not yet posted its graduate guide for 2027 entry. The last round, for 2026 entry, ran from 15 October 2025 to 1 March 2026. The round before ran from 1 November 2024 to 28 February 2025. Expect the next round to open in late 2026 and close around early March 2027. Some websites give 30 April as the deadline, but HUST’s own pages do not support that date (checked October 19, 2026).
What it covers
- Full tuition waiver
- Accommodation
- A monthly stipend
- Comprehensive medical insurance
HUST’s graduate guide does not state the stipend amount, so check the new guide when it comes out.
Two ways to apply
- Type B, Chinese University Program: you apply to HUST directly. This route is for master’s and PhD applicants only.
- Type A, Bilateral Program: you apply through the dispatching authority in your home country, such as the education office of the Chinese embassy or your government’s scholarship board. That authority sets its own dates.
The CSC does not accept applications from individuals. Do not send your file to the CSC directly.
Who can apply
- Master’s: a bachelor’s degree and under 35 years old.
- PhD: a master’s degree and under 40 years old.
- A GPA of at least 3.0 out of 4.0, 3.75 out of 5.0, or 75%, or the equivalent.

How to apply
- Check the HUST Chinese University Program page and the programme lists for master’s, doctoral and medical study.
- Apply on the HUST online admission system and upload your academic documents.
- Pay the application fee. HUST treats an unpaid application as incomplete.
- After you get a pre-admission letter, fill in the scholarship form on the CSC system. Choose Type B and agency number 10487.
- Upload your passport, physical examination form, police certificate and the scholarship form, then wait for the result by email.
Academic documents include your degree certificate, transcripts, personal statement, a video of under 60 seconds, a CV, a study plan of over 1,000 words, a writing sample, a language certificate and two letters from professors or associate professors. Some schools also want an acceptance letter from a HUST supervisor.
Tips before you apply
- Watch the HUST application guides page. HUST posted its other 2027 guides on 9 October 2026, so the graduate guide may follow soon.
- Write to a possible supervisor early. A supervisor’s letter is required in some schools and helps in others.
- Start your medical form and police certificate now. They take time in many countries.
- If you also want to try Type A, ask your country’s scholarship body about its dates. They are often earlier than HUST’s.
- Read the HUST scholarship FAQ and the last graduate application guide for the full document rules.
