On this page
The British Airways Summer Internship is a paid 10-week work placement at the airline’s head office near London Heathrow. It is run by British Airways for university students in any subject. You earn at a rate of £26,000 a year, pro rata, and work on real projects in a head office team or the Engineering department.
Status: Closed. The closing date for the 2027 internship was 4 November 2026, and the official page does not state a date for the next round. You must also show the right to work in the UK for the full placement, and the official page does not offer visa sponsorship for this role. If you are in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya or India without UK work rights, this limit matters more than the deadline (checked November 5, 2026).
What it covers
This is a fixed-term, full-time job, not a scholarship. The official page says you will work on projects, everyday business tasks and activities that affect the company, alongside colleagues. Your placement is shaped around your interests, strengths and area of study.
British Airways also lists these benefits:
- Discounted flights and annual leave
- A graduate community and networking
- Colleague networks, volunteering and sustainability projects
- The option to become a Campus Ambassador
What the salary means
The £26,000 figure is a yearly rate, not what you take home for the summer. Ten weeks at that rate comes to about £5,000 before tax, if you work it out over a 52-week year. This is a rough sum for guidance only. Your contract sets your actual pay and deductions.
Who can apply
- You must be a university student, in the first or second year when you do the internship.
- You need a predicted 2:2 degree or equivalent. Any subject is accepted.
- You must be returning to university after the 10 weeks.
- You must be able to show the right to work in the UK for the full placement.
- You can apply to only one British Airways emerging talent scheme.
Finishing the placement can make you eligible to apply for the Business Graduate role. The official page says that role is not currently eligible for sponsorship, so do not plan on it as a visa route.

- Complete the online assessments after you submit.
- Record a video interview if invited.

Tips before you apply
- Sort out your UK work rights first. Without them you cannot meet the rules for this role.
- Check your year of study. You must still be in your first or second year during the internship and return to university after it.
- Start early. This round closed in early November for a June start, so autumn is the time to look.
- Prepare examples of teamwork and problem solving for the assessments and interview.
- Apply only through the official British Airways careers site. Do not pay anyone for an application.
